Do-Overs: A Time Travel Thriller of Sudden Second Chances is best described as freaky, but not in a bad way. In fact a thrilling, tantalizing way. Let me ask you a question. What would you do if you had the chance at a do-over. A chance to redo everything in your life, do it differently, do it right. Correct the mistakes of your past, tell the ones you lost that you love them a little more times, go and visit your near and dear ones a little more, mend a broken heart or relationship, or even catch a murderer? That's exactly what Roy Hobbs encounters when he's approached by a stranger to write a book, just one book, just for him. Roy cannot know the topic of the book until he makes a decision, and the stranger is willing to pay big money for it.What starts off as an 'I can't believe I hit the jackpot' job turns into something much more when Roy realizes that he doesn't just have to write the book, but LIVE it. He's given a chance to do things over, save his wife from her murderer, right some wrongs along the way. But what price do you pay for tempting with fate and destiny? I downloaded without hesitation because the good reviews seemed solid and the negatives lacked information.The Not Good: Did you know that grape-flavored Gatorade Fierce is the favorite restorative drink of weary time travelers? You will by the end of this book because the author mentions it so many times I can only assume it’s a cry for help. That repetitiveness is rampant throughout the novel which is why it clocks in around 300 pages when it would have been 127. The narrator is an investigative journalist who leaves a lot of obvious questions unasked and made this observation; “She was mid-forties, probably worked in ad sales for one of the rep firms in the Wrigley building, she had big knockers.” Red herrings are rampant, the only intriguing character is the serial killer, the plot twists are obvious but crafted into convulsions, and the resolution is creepy af even though it is billed as happy.With a brutal editor, a more mindful approach to the development of character, and for the sake-of-sales a decent cover artist, this book has potential.I read the book in one night because a winter storm had taken out the internet and I couldn’t download a new one to replace it.
